In the current digital age, students are increasingly exposed to various forms of digital media in their daily lives. To prepare them for the future, they must develop the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively create and consume digital media content. This aligns with the Lagos State University vision of excellence in teaching, learning, research, and community service. Digital media would align with teaching and learning within the university environment and the immediate community through media and internet streaming of instructional content.

 

Overview

Digital Media refer to the development of Instructional audio content that can be shared on the web and web 2.0 (social media- Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, etc.). This course will provide students with a comprehensive overview of the various forms of digital media that can be utilized in the classroom.

 

This course, Digital Media in Education, LASU-EDT 104 will also cover other digital media forms, such as video podcasts, screencasts, and interactive media, and will provide students with hands-on experience in creating and consuming digital media content and exploring the technical and creative aspects of podcast creation, as well as the various educational uses and benefits.

 

Objectives

The objectives of this course are to:

  1. explore the definitions of digital media;
  2. provide students with an understanding of the various forms of digital media and their educational applications;
  3. develop students’ ability to utilise patented and open-source software for instructional podcasting production;
  4. develop students’ technical and creative skills and other forms in digital media;
  5. explore the potential benefits and challenges of utilizing digital media in education, and to develop strategies for overcoming these challenges;
  6. promote critical thinking and reflection on the role of digital media in education and its impact on students and society;

 

Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:

  1. provide at least two (2) relevant definitions of instructional digital media;
  2. discuss at least five (5) forms of digital media that can be used for education;
  3. evaluate at least four (4) of the existing instructional digital media and their relevance to classroom and workplace learning;
  4. utilize at least three (3) forms of digital media to support and enhance learning in various subject areas;
  5. discuss three (3) educational benefits and three (3) limitations of digital media, and strategies for overcoming these limitations;
  6. analyse critically five (5) roles of digital media in education and their impact on students and society;
  7. discuss four (4) ethical issues of digital media in education
